People who insist on being fashionable are often masking deeper insecurities. If you are comfortable with your simple way of dressing, the resulting confidence will prevail. Don't worry about pleasing these petty individuals.

A new outfit might perk you up, wearing something you like can add a boost in confidence. If you have simple taste you don't have to get really fancy and try to compete a few items that are classics go a long way in a wardrobe. Depending on your body shape etc you need to decide what will look tasteful on you and what will fit the occasion. For instance if this will be an outdoor mid-day picnic a nice pair of khaki shorts (I think flat front always better than pleated, who needs the extra poufy look around the middle) and a polo shirt or a camp style shirt (cotton or cotton rayon blend button up shirt/short sleeve) or a simple jersey cotton knit shirt (round neck or v neck whatever looks best on you) can be nice - a nice neutral tone something that you can mix and match later with other things you have or a plain white. You can jazz that up with accessories too earrings a necklace and instead of a leather belt maybe a scarf used instead of a belt can be quite cute. If this is an evening thing and dressier a black skirt or pants and a nice blouse and simple accessories same kind of thought pattern here. Don't feel like a fool! Really, you'd probably be suprised at how many people feel just the way you do about these types of things. Some people may be blessed with the sense of style and budget to get them there but so many of the rest of us out there have to work at it and wing it!
If the timing is right maybe you can visit a department store cosmetics counter and see if one of the lines would give you an update on your makeup look. Talk to them first, find out if it's free, let them know what you like and make an appointment for before your party. Also don't forget your hair an updo for an evening out or an outdoor party may be good evening maybe back in a clip with a few curls or whispys showing, a picnic a clip or pulled back in barret could be nice. Hope you have a great time and feel good doing it!

it sux that people you are close to actually make fun of you for the way you choose to dress. Does your husband stick up for you when they do that? If not you should tell him to and maybe they will get the message that your hurt by their obvious nastiness. Don't feel like a fool just because you don't like to spend a lot of your husbands hard earned money on 'fashionable' clothing. Most of it looks pretty ridiculous anyway, don't you think? Don't pay any attention to them and definately don't feel supconscious or tense when your around them...feel proud that you are neat and clean and your husband is proud of you...have fun!

Oh, don't be. Do you really care about what your in-laws think of how you look? I say go to the get -together, put on your best dress or anything that YOU feel comfortable in and go with your head up high. Just be yourself or simple if that's what you are and be proud of it, obviously, your husband does'nt seem to mind so why should you. Good luck and have a great dinner- put on your best smile and be yourself and enjoy.

Why dont you go out and buy youself something pretty and dress up nicely. Its only for a few hours, there is nothing wrong with looking your best on special occasions. If you dont have a clue on how to dress nicely try looking up some styles fit for your age or ask a friend. ANy way you do it you will look very nice for them.

Don't even worry about it, just be yourself. If everyone was the same life would be boring. If you want to be more fashionable then you could always ask one of your friends/family members to go out shopping with you one day. But, if you are happy with how you dress then be proud of it and just enjoy your party.

Don't be nervous! Everyone has a different sense of style. I would try to be confident in my appearance. What matters more is your own sense of self worth. The more confident and at ease you feel the more people won't notice what the heck you're wearing anyway! Don't stress out about it. Try to relax and have fun during this get together-That's what people will remember, not what you're wearing.

Be yourself, you shouldn't have to get all dressed up to hang out with family, if they don't like it, then to hell with them. You should be comfortable with who you are.
