We always dug the hole a little deeper and then put the poles in and then poured the bags of concrete in, then poured water over it,,you don't need gravel..then pack the dirt back around the post hole..



we put privacy fence up in all the rentals we remodeled..

Since the soil is already sandy if you put gravel it has dirt in it. I would put rocks in it then your concrete.

Don't waste your time or money on concrete. Use crushed rock, not gravel. You don't want any dirt mixed in. Great for drainage and your posts won't snap off in a few years.

you shouldn't need the rocks/gravel.

Dig the hole, put in the post, put the concrete around it. This allows the wood pole to drain out the bottom.

Gravel is the way to go! I fenced in a whole horse pasture years ago with my then husband and the gravel is good for drainage! Honest!
