I may have to declare bankruptcy (most likely will be chapt 13) and if that happens I want to work very hard on rebuilding my credit to the best of my ability. Does anyone have any resources I should read or suggestions about how I can learn to rebuild my credit after a chapter 13 bankruptcy?

Thank you

I filed bankruptcy in 1992. It took ten years for it to come off my credit report. I called a couple of credit cards companies who have the secured credit cards which is where I sent them money and they gave me a "line of credit" in that amount.

So essentially I paid my bill before I ever used the credit. Then once I used the card, say for something small like lunch or an inexpensive dinner, (never for more than I had already paid them) then I would make sure I sent in a payment for the amount that I "borrowed" every month before the bill was due so that they could report to the credit bureaus that I paid my bills on time AND that I paid my balance off in full each month.

This helped immensely in rebuilding my credit. Good luck to you.

I haven't had any experience personally with bankrupty, but I am doing loads of credit repair on my own and I can tell you that this site has helped me TREMENDOUSLY and you can ask question and read loads and loads. SIgn up and ask questions or search for past question. Just make sure you read and read, take notes. You will learn a LOT about the crappy credit system!

Make a budget and stick to it. If you buy a car or anything else on credit, make sure you can afford it and are never late or behind on a payment. This will go on your credit report.
After 7 years, the bankruptcy will be taken off your credit history.

I'm in the same boat. I fell down, literally, and now my medical bills are about 50k. If I ever find a job, I'll have to save up to hire a bankruptcy lawyer. Good luck to you.
