I am moving a small-ish apartment with some (very) heavy furniture. Is it worth using a PODS or PackRat staorage container rather than making several trips and hassling friends and family?

We used it to move our entire house. Our new house wasn't going to be finished for another 2 months, so we packed it all in and they stored it until we could move in to the new house.
The only thing is that you have to pack it starting from the back of the container, to the top and keep moving out towards the doors. Keep packing from floor to ceiling. These containers will be transported around, so make sure nothing inside won't move, these get to a 45 degree angle to load and unload them from the truck. Protect everything, pad everything. You can't go back and sue them for your load not being packed right. We had a great experience and will use that system again, it saves on time and money. They drop it off at your house and pick it up when you are ready to move and will drop it off to your new place when you want them to. You even have your own lock and key. Good Luck!!

The only thing that PODS gives you is time to move and load your stuff gradually. Compared to getting a moving truck you are not on any type of time restraint. But you still have to get the stuff out of your house, and into the van. Then once your PODS unit gets to the new location you still have to move the stuff into the house.

It would be great if you could put all of your living room furniture into the container from your living room.. like if there was a way for them to drop the container in your house instead of the driveway, then THAT would be worth it.

After Ivan and Katrina hit us, PODS was used by many people who lost their homes to try and save some of the furniture, etc. Some people still have them in their yards while rebuilding. They are great!

I've used PODs. It WAS an absolute GOD Send!!

You rent it by the month, keep it on your site until loaded and have them come and drop it at the new location, unpack it and have them pick it up. I will NEVER again rent a Uhaul truck.

after hurrican Ivan hit the panhandle of florida, many many many many people used pods to store their stuff instead of a storage unit...the pods are still in ALOT of folks front yards...so i would say they are useful...alas not as cheap as a borrowed truck and lots of friends
