Many christians hate the thought of evolution as the beginning and creation of life on earth. So why do they say that God created this and that when they cannot prove it?

Christians deny the theory of evolution because it would prove that the bible which they base everything on is incorrect.

I think that the problems many Christians have with evolution (btw, I'm Christian and I totally follow the theory of evolution) has more to do with lack of proper education. Christians say that "God created this and that when they cannot prove it" based on the religious philosophy of "faith". They've been taught to believe that there are many things about the world and God that we don't have the power (or the right) to understand and therefore, we must believe based on faith alone. Remember the trouble Faust got into when he tried to be all knowing? If you want an interesting philosophical read, pick up "Faust" by Goethe-definitely worth your time.

Another problem with some of the Christians is there basic lack of understanding of scientific principle. Many people seem to think that the word "theory", when used in science, means that it's some sort of guess, which of course, those who have a reasonable understanding of math or science know better. I guess both sides need to be better educated about the other side to truly figure out your question.

The Catholic Church, the largest group of Christians in the US, officially made peace with the truth of evolution almost 100 years ago. Most mainstream churches agree.

Those who feel a need to believe in the truth of every word in the Bible sort of have to oppose Evolution since they are blind to the poetic nature of much of the 2000 year old writing. They are mostly unaware of the many textural contradictions in the Bible. (do a search on "contradictions in the bible")/

My thought is that people prefer to believe they are playing a part in a cosmic play directed by a powerful, loving being more than thinking for themselves.

Science has demonstrated that the universe came into being about 15,000,000,000 (billion) years ago. There are millions of known galaxies and probably billions of planets. To imagine that this all came into being so that we can each be subjected to a moral test and then sent to heaven or hell seems childish. As the Great scientists Richard Feynman said, .."it seems that the stage is way too big for the play".

btw the Theory of evolution says nothing of the origin or point of evolution. It describes how new species come into existance

I'm not sure! The Bible also seems to say (1 Kings 7) that the value of pi is exactly 3, but Christians aren't all up in arms when it is taught as an irrational number closer to 3.14159 in schools. Go figure! (Of course the church [and Pythagarus] did get very upset when irrational numbers were first discovered!

Christians don't hate the theory of evolution. Get real.

i imagine you want to strengthen your information of common sense and epistemology. The beginning of species through organic decision is the basically hypothesis that suits the observable data. Likewise the vast Bang theory, the concept of gravity, quantum mechanics... the record is going on. Nature isn't god's nature. it really is basically nature. And believe me I delight in it so a lot more desirable than you likely do through dint of my information of it. Do you already comprehend that calling the universe "introduction" as a results of superstitious nonsense positioned about through bronze age sheep herders and then telling those who that "introduction" is data of a author is a round argument? Do you already comprehend that round arguments are logically mistaken? Do you already comprehend that scripture isn't data?

Because it undermines their teaching that God created man in his own image.
