Reptiles do not have money, and apes don't own houses or cars.
Size matters. Because big males live longer, kills more, and kick the crap out of intruders.

We still have these urges but project em in a modern world.

Big wallet means good food, good health.
All things you can pump money into is just a reflection of your ability to stay healthy and provide food.

The urge to have a big penis is only the last fleshy echo of our primal existence because despite all of our technology, we still reproduce like our hairy, tree-dwelling ancestors.

I really don't have a big ego ... I try to be humble about my attribute. It's a little embarrassing to have something so large that everyone else is envious of.

Why are women always worried they are too fat? Why does bulimia and anorexia arise in women, primarily, who are obsessed with the idea of being too fat? Why do women spend thousands of dollars on breast implants with questionable consequences for their health?

We all want to be socially accepted, to be loved, to be seen as desirable, to feel someone wants us. Because our society puts so much emphasis on physical beauty and other features deemed desirable, people with low self esteem place an exaggerated value on these features.

So, a woman who feels she is fat constantly diets or binges and purges or starves herself to death. Perhaps a woman who thinks her lack of breast size is an impediment to being sought after by men gets two silicone sacs implanted beneath her skin.

Similarly, a man who doubts his ability to please a woman fixates on the size of his penis. He might wear some deceptive item inside his pants to suggest a larger penis than he actually possesses (although how he might later explain the relative smallness of the actual organ when in use I can't imagine). A man who is obsessed by this perceived failing might spend money on 'treatments' that promise the enlargement of his member (though I suspect that all of those would be more likely to damage than enhance the thing).

Low self esteem is the basis for all of this insanity.

I think that fashion and body piercing of all kinds stem from the same root cause. We see ourselves as inadequate au naturelle and try to enhance the package with the latest styles or with whatever body altering accessory happens to capture the public imagination (in some places it is multiple rings on the neck to highlight neck length, in some places it is plates in the lips, in some places it is nose rings, or ear rings, or eyebrow rings, or nipple rings, or what have you).

Personally I am opposed to all body mutilation for the sake of fashion.
