I've gone through two of those brushed metal soap dishes in a few months, and both times they started to rust two to three weeks after using it... Is there any way to keep it from rusting? I've tried to keep it clean and fairly dry, but of course that's impossible with the soap sitting in it. Maybe there is a type of soap that keeps it from rusting? And if it's already starting to rust, is there a way to restore it or make it look better?

Please answer the question and don't comment on what kind of dish I should buy.

Also, the soapdish is standing next to my sink, not in my tub/shower.

If you really like the metal soap dish look, your only choice is to permanently seal the metal dish with KBS RustSeal in clear coat to lock out moisture and rust.

Metal Soap Dish

Sorry sweety but it is metal and will rust. Nothing will keep it from rusting unless you do not use it, just leave it there for show. Try finding a liquid soap container with metal on the outside to match you soap dish and hopefully that will keep the longevity of your soap dish.
Well maybe this will work. After you use your soap dry it off before putting it back in your soap dish(reduce the water sitting there). You can also try to keep your eye on it and every time you see there is water in it, then dry it out.

I know you don't want to be told what kind to buy, but I really think you need to get a plastic or ceramic soap dish. Aren't you concerned that the rust will stain your sink? Perhaps try a pewter soap dish. I don't think pewter rusts, if you really need to have a metal one.

I use a brand new sos pad to clean mine. I say brand new because they are full of the blue soapy stuff so they don't scratch.

Either paint over it with clear fingernail polish or spray it with automotive clearcoat. That should help!

stay away from metal. If you ingest rust while you bathe, you risk tetanus poisoning.
