There are two kinds of councelors at my college; the ones who give little or no help and the ones that help but dont think you could make it or bring in the grades. Im confused, any ideas on how to deal or where to look? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i have found that at my university, professors have been the best at giving academic advising, not the counselors. Especially if it concerns your major, you might want to try getting in touch with a professor from that department who is familiar with the school. Contact a professor you know and feel comfortable with, one who knows you. If this doesn't work, you may want to request a new counselor, keep looking until you find one that helps you and believes you can succeed. hope this helps some!

They're not always right about students. And some instructors just don't invest much in individual students (a lot are burnt out)

I had a Chem instructor last semester who thought I wasn't gonna make it because I was a reentry student and hadn't had Algebra for 20 years. But he changed his tune after a few weeks when he found out what a serious student I am.

Success is sweet revenge. Do whatever you need to make it. Find a study buddy or a tutor to give you the help you need. If he's really treating you badly, file a complaint. Your tuition is paying his salary! Good luck.

You get what you can out of them (the ones that give little of no help) and the others, why care what they think? Prove them wrong. Good luck, they are really there to help guide you with your cirriculum and not everybody is good at what they get paid to do.

If they dont think you can make it, you probably cant. They see thousands of students every year, and they know what to expect from people. Screw that feel good you can do anything crap, take their advice.
