...you can rip music from cd's but you can't rip video from a dvd? I have windows media player.

I'm fairly sure it has something to do with the fact that dvds are digitally encoded to make it much more difficult to rip them. I know it's possible with certain kinds of software, but that software is designed to work around the dvd encryptions.

Also, it's illegal to rip dvds I think. (I'm totally not positive, though.) I know it's not illegal to rip music to your computer, it's just illegal to download it without purchasing anything. I hope I'm helpful!

It's protected that way...you need a special DVD recorder...in
Japan, you can get DVD recorder/player systems...has'nt hit here yet...the content is the money..distribution rights...without that...you would find movies on the Net...mp4 is coming though...the TV and film industry fears this but what they should do is set up sites for it like I-tunes....that is what the future has in store for us.

you can rip anything. you just need the right software.
