A question I read here some time ago asked ' why black people can call themselves the ' n ' word but are offende when a white person wouold say it. That got me thinking about the word itself and the context that it is used in. The word originated, I think, back in slavery times by a population of incredibly ignorant peoples of the white persuasion to represent what they believed the black to be. Unclean, uneducated, not to be trusted with anything and unmotivated to work unless forced. I would hope that in todays times, the majority of us know none of this to be true for the vast majority of the black population. But, what of the minority of black people who have decided that the life of crime or welfare is justified because of their race. Thats not to say a segment of the white population are not as deeply involved in crime or using welfare to keep their sorry asses at home, but we dont have as derogatory a term applied to us. Which brings me back to the question?

The answer by vigorous pumpjob is exactly what makes me wonder why the majority of black people would want that word applied to them by any colour when you have morons like this person who still think back in the dark ages.

Good question. I would have to say I'm offended if anyone calls me the "N" word as you put it here. My mama use to say, you put your words where they are best used. There are leaders and other blacks/Afro Americans who fought and fought hard to have that word removed from the dictionary and the English language period. When I hear blacks/Afro-Americans calling each other that like nicknames I said good for them due to the fact it is an ignorant term. They don't realize that if a white/Caucasian person says that to them, then their ready to fight and they have no idea why which leads back to ignorance. I don't know what makes a black person think that if your in a professional situation and a another race calls you "n" what can you do about it? They also don't realize they are killing the civil rights in this country by making it out to be "cool" or accepted by them only.

I think the main thing like you said is ignorant. Humans just enjoy destroying each other instead of educating themselves to better understanding, the prefer to spit in the faces of our forefathers or even their own grandparents just to be accepted by their peers. It's sad, very sad that the black race has only come this far.

Yes, I believe they should. And you are correct. It did start way back when black people were unfortunately forced to be slaves. And I have no idea why some of them use it and listen to rap music that has the "n" word in it. I have come to hate all cuss words, but hearing the "n" word makes me cringe with anger and grief. Why in the world would someone, especially a black person have fun saying that word?! I didn't choose to be born white, my friends didn't choose to be born black, and my niece and nephew had no choice about being born black. And what if, for some reason people started discriminating against people who had a lot of freckles? I might get on the bus and have a seat close to the front. Someone who was really tan would get on the bus and say, "Hey, that's my seat! Get out of here you dirty "frecklier"!" Yes, of course that’s kind of wild, but I think you get my point there. So EVERYONE should be offended by, and HATE the "n" word.
(There's no valid reason for liking it.)

The word ****** in the American English language is a form of offensive slang. The word ****** originated from the French and Spanish languages back in 1640-1650s from the root word negro. Negro strictly refers to the black people and does not hold the same offensiveness.White american culture has used the word to describe poor and uneducated blacks during the times of slavery. The black population can use the word more freely since they are leaving the racial insult out since they are the same race. It would be the same as a white person calling another white person poor or stupid.

YES, the way it is used today between the younger generation of black males has a different context for what it was originally used but the original intent of the word is still prevalent and cannot be dismissed. I am a former user of the word as a young black male and now understand how hurtful and damaging it is to our young people to keep this word in our vocabulary. It causes confusion because there should not be a double standard when used in mixed race settings as opposed to when used in black only settings.

via fact cracker would not no longer have as lots historical past at the back of the be conscious as ******. No its isn't everywhere close to an identical element as cracker. while a black guy or woman grow to be lynched, enslaved, crushed to death, denied jobs, denied front into golf equipment, eating places, faculties, housing maximum possibly they heard that be conscious being thrown at them. or perhaps right this moment i hear racist people using that be conscious in the direction of me. It reminds us of each racist element that has ensue interior the previous and modern-day if its reported by ability of a white guy or woman. Why do you think of racism ended with slavery? It did no longer and nonetheless isn't died. That being reported i do no longer use the be conscious even however some blacks do, and that i does no longer get excitement from everyone using that in the direction of me.

i think that they should be offended by the word but I'm white so i can't see this from the other side. i agree that there is no excuse for a white man to use it and that African Americans have the right to be offended by the word. i may be over stepping the boundaries here but here is my theory. i think that African Americans use it BECAUSE of their history. the world was used to empower the whites back then and now the African Americans are using it for the same thing. i think that the African Americans are using to show that it does not affect them any more even though it really does. they are using it in order to make themselves feel powerful over other people.....i really can't explain this really well but that's the gist of my thoughts. sorry if i offended any one but that's how i feel!

I'm not offended by it. I generally don't use it and don't hang around anyone who uses it either.

Still, as a black man to a black man, I see it as a sign of respect. When he says "I'm his n-" it's like I'm his brother. He has my back. And it's hot when a black female uses it.

But it's a different story for a white person, and I cannot tell you why. I wouldn't punch him, but I'd be alittle perturbed nonetheless. Just doesn't seem to match with the person. I guess you'd have to be AA all your life to feel the dilemma.

So instead of being prejudice I would rather not use it or have anyone to call me such. :)

Some people may take the 'n' word more offensively than others. To be honest, that was kind of a long explanation so I got a little lost. Besides, people choose to be offended by something like that.

Well, when a white person says it, it sorta brings up tha slavery times and reminds us that tha word wuz used ta insult us, put us down and make us feel miserable. Which brings us to who said it back then: White people. Dat's why we don't appreciate white people usin' tha word. When a African-American says it ta another, it doesn't affect us at all becuz he's Black himself and he wuz called tha same thing back then just as tha other African-American wuz.
