Absolutely not! When are people gonna learn that Terrorism is not a person place or tangible object, its abstract; an idea, you can not fight an idea, just argue the positive or negative points of it. It will never be defeated, just like hunger, poverty, injustice, etc...

Warfare is but one component of the comprehensive strategy (or is that strategery?) Bush is using against the extremist Islamic terrorists.

The components of the strategy includes: warfare, diplomatic sanctions, dialogue, negotiation, encouraging support against terrorists, international cooperation, international surviellance, etc.

Because, as we'd see in the years 1979 to 2001, the policies of appeasement, ignoring it, sporadic bombing, treating it like a police matter, treating it like a social services matter, and cut 'n' run all not only failed to stop or diminish terrorism, it actually helped them recruit more troops to fight the decadent weaklings of the West.

But please do not pretend that warfare is the only thing Bush has been doing.

Short answer: no.

Long answer: Hell, no.

As we've seen in Iraq, warfare simply creates more people skilled in the art of terrorism. An entire generation of young Iraq Sunnis now know how to build IED's, car bombs, etc. Ten years from now, when one of these young men unleashes the next 9/11 on us, Republicans will ***** and moan and blame whatever Democrats have followed GWB into the White House, but the fact will be that Bush's inept policies are what will have put us at risk.

And, as we just learned in Lebanon, terrorists are hard to eliminate with troops. Instead, they fight a war of attrition, and only end up gaining more of a following.

What other option do we have. Lets sit down with them and talk our problems through. While they put a black pillow case over our head and shoot us or behead us. Why? Because they don't care what we think or what we have to say. They are products of hate and the offspring of destruction. So can terror be defeated by war? Its up to you to decide.

I don't think so. Acertain amount like we did in Afghanistan helps diminish the frequency of attacks but new techniques like the eavesdropping and some form of electronic profiling have to be developed. Combine that with some covert ops of our own making and keep them on the run until they mess up and get caught.

no. Terrorism can only be defeated if the policies in place are changed to no longer limit the growth, sovereignty, and liberties of the "terrorst nations."
It is the foreign policies towards the middle east region by the USA and UK over the last 70 years that has brewed this much "hate" towards us by those people. If we change our policies, and take take such a pro-israel stance, you will "terrorism" significantly reduced.

Warfare plays into the "terrorists" hands. As you can see with Afghanistan and Iraq.

Not, not even close, which is why intelligence gathering and freezing assets are probably the main weapons against terrorism. War is necessary to eliminate regimes which harbor and/or support terrorism.

Yes, at great cost.

General Sherman said war is not to win the hearts of the enemy, but to make them so weary of fighting that they will remember for a century how bad war is and be afraid to ever pick up a weapon again.

He also said war was awful and not to be entered into lightly.

Read up on Sherman's march. Absolutely brutal. But it ended the war, decisively.

Ask Germany and Japan what got them to stop. The Kamakazi were suicide killers too.

Life is sad sometimes.

PS The term "war on terror" is a total misnomer. We are fighting an ideology, not a tactic. Even Bush is too politically correct.

Yes, particularly if you are able to stop its head. In this case, Iran is the head and chief sponsor of Islamofascism. Despite the fact that we don't want to do it, Iran will have to be taken out, and cut the head and funding to Islamofascism and friends.

No, terrorism can only be defeated by total annihilation.

You cant negotiate with terrorists. Warfare is the only other option. By the way, you can fight fire with fire. You burn the fuel with smaller, controlled fires, then the big one wont have anything to burn!!!
