You can't celebrate on the 31st if their bday is on the 4th. Have two parties. The bday party doesn't have to be spectacular. He/she won't remember it when they are older anyway.

Since it's October 4th, you should have 2 separate parties. If it was on the 27th or 28th then you can celebrate it with Halloween, but it's in the beginning of the month and Halloween is at the end. For the birthday party, just make it a small family get together with music, dance, food, etc. You might even consider a themed birthday party like Barney, Sesame Street, Dora the Explorer, or Blues Clues. For Halloween, you can invite friends over to have a BIG party, but I doubt that your little kid would want to see all the gruesome costumes because they are just too scary!

Something really cute and colorful like Sesame Street or The Backyardigans (Nickelodeon). You can dress them up like a character. They won't remember it, so its really for you to commemorate your child's first year. You can just do a really simple party with cake, icecream, the little party hats and noise makers. Its more about the pictures so they can see when they're older and you can have a great first birthday memory of your baby.

Since the baby will only be 1 year old, I don't think you have to go "all out." Do what you want to do. You could have cake and punch along with the Halloween celebration. Or, you could just have family over for cake and ice cream on the 4th or thereabouts.
Your baby won't remember it. You'll have pictures with your baby with cake all over him/her. That's what you remember!

Something cute, like Sesame Street or something your child likes. But I wouldn't do it on Halloween because your baby might get scared from all the costumes and stuff, and it's too far from their actual birthday. How would you like it if you had a birthday as a little kid and had to wait 27 days to actually celebrate it?

One year olds really sont understand parties...but for my daughters first I rented the local fire departments metting hall (Large family wouldnt fit in a house), and I bought some remnants of unprinted newspaper from my local paper and I taped it to the ground...wrote all of my neices and nephews names on it and drew with marker a huge box for each of them...I put their goody bags in their box with a fresh 36 count of crayons with it and when they showed up they had stuff to do... I had a couple games planned for the kids to run around and play, and they had a blast....My bf's neice's b-day is the day before halloween and we do costume parties for her and its nice because the kids can stay dressed up for more than the two hours they go trick or treating for...halloween themed cupcakes for the kids and stuff....they had fun last year...cant wait until this year.....

Shes not gonna remember anything so you dont hafta do alot for it.
Just invite your friends/family over and have a party. If you have friends who have kids her age invite them as well. I prolly would have it on Halloween, then during the night sometime you can do the birthday cake and stuff.

It's kind of far apart in dates but the baby won't care one way or another. If you don't mind the distance in days and neither does your family I'd go for it.
