Yes. We the taxpayers are not only paying for their incarceration but also for their medical care. Smoking causes many diseases so why not eliminate it in the prisons and it would probably save millions in medical care.

They allow smoking in prisons? Maybe I should consider becoming a resident. I've never committed a crime in my life, but so many smoking bans are being passed in cities and even small towns now that prison may be the only place you can smoke. So, in a sense, prisons are providing the inmates with more civil rights than to the person outside the fence. Go figure.

Many prisons already have but good luck enforcing it. They still manage to get drugs and alcohol in there. I'm sure cigarettes would be no problem. There is an increased cost to the taxpayer for cigarette-related health problems in prisons so they should probably be eliminated. However, consider this . . . do we really want a bunch of guys that were already violent to start going through withdrawl?

as a humanist i would have no, the same protection from passive smoking should apply to non smokers and guards, but,i live in la la land and imagine prison to be like porrage where every one acts like one big happy family and smoking happens after a good joke with the guard over a glass of prison hooch.

considering second hand smoke hasnt been proven to be bad for your health in any judicially acceptable trials (most commonly cited one was thrown out of court due to withholding of data), i would say no. Why should they not be allowed to smoke?

and the ban on public smoking (like restaurants and bars) is also a huge mistake IMO. why not let people do WTF they want to? If youre that touchy about it, dont go. If the owner of an establishment wants his customers to be allowed to smoke, why shouldnt he be able to? If someone doesnt like it, they shouldnt go there. Simple as that.

If the prisoner can afford their own smokes, then no. If we have to pay for it, I say Yes! We shouldnt give money out of our pockets for their habit!!

No. Prisoners are still citizens, and if smoking is legal in the U.S., it should remain legal in prison.

yep why do they deserve it in there. Then we have to pay for their medical care.
No need to expose the employees too.
Of course that is only the beginning of prison reform in my mind
