I think many people live out some kind of fantasy life by becoming somewhat obsessed with celebrities...

Ask yourself why people must buy the latest fashions or why some vehicles are classics or why certain movies are Oscar contenders... I could go on & on, but if you recognize what all these ?'s + your ? have in common, it comes down to human nature & psychology. In the animal kingdom which we are a part of, there are those who dominate & those who recognize their weaknesses so they are the followers. In our so called intellectual world, humans have placed value on those who have wealth & stature (based on the populous opinions). Those who achieve theses so called values are considered the dominate group to which all others will follow in order to be a part of the group & be accepted, & those who follow the group to gain stature for themselves to climb to the top & be dominant (these people tend to criticize to boost their own self worth & try to destroy anyone in a dominant position, who appears to show weakness, such as actors who get in trouble with the law or seem to not demonstrate the on going masses values.) American culture has integrated movie "star" status on the same level as any other country has placed on Monarchy's, Tzars, any ruler of status. All these people have been able to manipulate the masses to their advantage (dominate), so you achieve a yearning & jealousy in those who have no power to control, so they become fans, groupies, etc. This includes those who report on the dominant group, who often achieve stature themselves because they are accepted on the same dominant level. When the followers are merely just that & never acknowledged, they form their own groups to act like they're on the same level...eg. wolves, lions, etc. go off & form their own groups. In humans we do the same just not on a survival level & our grasp of creating a communicational language, which allows us to philosophize, also allows us to gossip in what ever form that can come in. I hope I've helped as you've said you don't think you'll ever understand why people care about celebrities, which come in any form including politicans, rulers, gangbangers, mophia, etc. It's our Animal/Human nature. Long winded I know.... but that's the crux of it.
p.s.- yes an actors behavior does affect why someone would want to see their movie or not. Even I make choices not to support an actors movie even if it's really good, because acting is an illusion, fantasy, escapism. Even if the movie is based on a true story & is thought provoking, humans can't always separate an actors real life events or behaviors from their day job, portraying a fictional character they are not. Again it comes down to falling from a domimant position in the masses eyes & becoming just another follower trying to regain status they once enjoyed. Such is life.

I often wonder the same thing...I have to many real problems in my life to give a **** about brad or Angelina or tom and Katie..Also if a movie looks good to me I will see it..even if I don't like the actors...Most people take things about celebrities way to personal..I suspect because they have no life of their own...Sad really.

people care because of the fact he became right into a respected artist (howdy the two are) and he did that. often somebody with a great acceptance they wouldnt break it by skill of hitting their female buddy/boyfriend. this is abonormal for somebody that has all that money and each and all of the administration of their lives to try this way of terrible element.

I think America is ridiculously involved in the personal lives of celebrities. Further they think their political opinions are worth listening to or are more valid than anyone elses! Excellent question. live your own life, don't dwell on someone else's.

some people are obviously obsessed or have no life---i guess its great to hear things about others but not when its hurting them--celebreties entertain us, that doesn't give us the right to follow them and spread information about them 24/7, without them we would have no music, movies, television, they don't ask us to constantly pry into their lives.
