I've heard it so many times before...
Is it because a lot of inmates have kids, so it's a way for them to punish what they did?

This may not sound nice coming from a clinical psychiatrist, pedophiles are the scum of the earth. I can tell you that the state is wasting their money by putting them in jail and having to feed and put a roof over their head.
They don't respond to any known kind of therapy. They have no remorse. If they say they have remorse they lie. An in many cases they say I have remorse an a judge will let them back out onto the street or they serve their time in jail and get out on probation.
When they do get out the odd are about 100% that they will molest another child. Plus the majority of them fail to file as a registered sex offender. Ofcourse registration does not do much good as law enforcement does not really have the time to check on them 24 hours per day.
If I knew that I would not loose my Lic., I would put a gun to their head and shoot them. This way for sure you will know that your children are safe.
I don't reside in the United States. I think Washington State is the only state that when a pedophiles is convicted they stay in jail or a mental hospital for life with no chance of parole. (I could be wrong about this).

I am a prison pastor, so I can answer this question for you with the truth. Most inmates have children waiting for them to get out of jail. Their kids mean a great deal to them and they love them very much. Even the most hardened criminal will not want to hurt a child or see one hurt. They take it personally when they are confronted with another inmate who has been sentenced for molestation. It is also considered a sign of weakness for a man to prey upon a child and inmates do not respect weaknesses in other inmates. Weaknesses are exploited in prison. There is usually little forgiveness among inmates---issues are handled with force, sometimes deadly force. Therefore, sex criminals are usually isolated in special facilities just for them in order to protect them from the rest of the general prison population.

Most inmates were victims of child sexual and/or physical and emotional abuse themselves. Pedophiles are the lowest of the totem pole in jail. Rapists are low too. I guess the other inmates assault them to let out their rage and punish them for such a heinous crime. Children are helpless victims, so the other inmates figure they deserve to get molested, beaten or killed.

Pedophilia is the MOST despicable crime imaginable, their victims are victims for LIFE and usually become molesters themselves. It is a repeating cycle,,,
It is so bad in-fact convicted criminals cannot stomach them. The only difference between the cons that beat and rape them and average Joe, is cons have nothing to loose by doing so.
And it is true most convicts have children on the outside and want to send a message to any would-be molesters.
P.S. I hope a few baby-rapers out there are reading this. You will get caught, you will go to prison, you will be beaten or killed, have a nice day.

Actually, it has been an ordinary occurence inside the jail. No matter what crime one has committed. This is more on emasculating a new comer. Observe those who is a familiar inmate who goes in and out of the cell, the treatement becomes different.

Because even the criminals in jail feel sympathy towards those victims who got raped or w/e and get really mad at the pedophiles for being so cruel and give them what they deserve.

I'm GLAD that happens. They should get beat up. That child could have mental problems for the rest of their lives and the jerk that ruined them gets to sit in a cozy jail cell? Aw, poor baby...YEAH RIGHT...that man should have his d*ck cut off and shoved down his throat for molesting a little child. It's a GREAT thing that the other inmates take it upon themselves to help "punish" them.

I don't think pedophiles should go to jail. I have MANY MANY other ideas for what should be done to them instead. Things that would make your hair curl and your ears ring.
