I suggest she turn you into the local Police that might curb it.

It does seem a little harsh and Kleptomania, is like any other addiction, you need help with it. There are various kinds of addiction, and people probably think Kleptomania can be cured with postiive thinking. If that were true, there would be no heroin addicts about. An addiction is an addiction, regardless of whether it is drugs or behaviour.
I think what your wife is trying to tell you is that you stealing things all the time is very embarrassing to her. I dont know whether you have been charged with stealing, but it will only be time before you do, and maybe thats what she is trying to stop.
Chopping your hands off would probably stop you stealing...but what do we do with the drug addicted people......shoot them?
You have a problem and you can be helped by far less drastic measures than having your hands chopped off. Find a counsellor who will be able to help you....Its seems like a far better choice than a vacation to an Islamic Island. Get the help then you both will enjoy Portugal.

paulisfree is full of it. My son shop-lifted $3.24 worth of merchandise in Walmart and is banned for life, and they did prosecute him! He was 16 at the time.
Anyway, you need professional help for your addiction. It is not a joke. Usually this is about low self-esteem, think you don't deserve stuff or no one sees you, stuff like that.
Your wife is enabling you if she does not insist you seek help NOW!
She should leave, if you don't, since you are not really there for her-since you are not ALL THERE.
Chopping your hand off is not the solution. You could figure out how to steal with your feet or your nose or the internet.
And you don't have to go on vacation to get your hand chopped. Any good heavy knife will do.
Send your wife to Portugal and go to counselling. Good luck.

kleptomania cant be cured with a vacation. you need help and it needs to be professional. you should get counseling and possibly some medications that will help you out. another good thing maybe you should do is wear bells on bracelets around your wrists. every shop owner in town will be able to tell when you are going for something.

If I were you, I would stay out of any Islamic countries. But jail time in Portugal wouldn't be so good either. Just stop stealing.

I think you are being rather paranoid, however I personally would rather not visit the Middle East in it's current state. Portugal sounds like a better choice to me. Try comprimising and finding a place where you both want to go!

LOL Sounds like your wife has a great sense of humor. Try therapy instead of going on vacation, it might cure you.

Sounds harsh, but you seriously need to get help if its bad enough your own wife is trying to snap you out of it that way.

go to therapy, find out what your trying to repress and get over it. your wife should be rewarded with her own vacation for not leaving you, your behavior has had to effect her in a bad way so let her know that it means something to you. just in effort alone she is worth her weight in gold.
