theres a kit at the paint dept at home depot its a piece of metal mesh with glue on one side and then some spakleing compound so its got a little spreader and then you buy a sheet of sand paper and after it dries the next day sand it off a little and then dab some paint to match on it with a sponge or a t-shirt rag when sanding use a block of wood to help flatten the sand paper to the wall and its easy not complicated just read ans follow the directions an olde dude and a painter for 26 years,

Now you went and did it. If the hole is in your living area and is a large one. By that I mean larger than a 50 cent piece then there is no easy way to repair it without it showing. If the wall is textured, and most are, then that needs to be done to the repair to match the wall. You'll need someone who knows what they are doing to do the repair. If it is smaller then all you have to do is get some Spackle at Home Depot or where ever, and smooth it into the hole, let it dry and add as many thin layers it takes to fill the dimple that is left. You can get some that doesn't shrink. However, unless you have some matching paint the repair will be noticeable but not as much as the hole would.
I'm showing my age. Do you even know what a 50 cent piece looks like? >G>

flow to abode Depot or Lowes, they might get you the components you desire. it extremely is not a no longer straightforward task, even though it takes somewhat time. no rely if this is a huge hollow, only utilising the mesh patch kit won't artwork, formerly long it extremely is going to start to sink interior the wall. this is greater helpful to do it precise the 1st time. First you're taking a application knife and decrease a sq. around the hollow. Use this as a trend to decrease a sparkling piece of sheetrock. Now use some sandpaper and sand off the paint and texture around the hollow till you're right down to bare sheetrock. Take a brief piece of board, longer than the hollow, and slide it interior the wall. place it around the interior the hollow, and run drywall screws during the sheetrock and into the timber. Now placed your new piece of sheetrock in place, and screw it to the board. next prepare some plastic mesh over the seam. Then prepare spackle and paint.

How big is the hole?
Assuming its fist size and drywall construction, to fix it seamlessly is not so easy. You'll need to install a piece of drywall about the size of the hole, use joint tape, and then joint compound and the sanding that goes with that. Try a local Home Depot or Lowes and see if they have a DIY session that covers it.
Other than that, a piece of something about the size of the hole and duct tape.

ok listen carefully when you go to home depot you can buy a patch to stick it on but you have to measure the size or they have sticky tape and you cut it few layers on top of each other till you make a screen than you buy soma drywall compound or they call mud and use a scraper to paste on try to make a smmoth as possible so you put one layer and you wait over the night till it dries and you send with sending paper and apply second time dry it and send it again and third time when you send has to be smooth you need also afine sending paper to finish that area and paint with primer and your paint

I hate to answer like this... but the easiest way is to hire someone to fix it for you...
Or just not punch holes in walls. That works too...

I agree, the easiest solution is to hang a picture over the hole & wait for someone with the skills to fix it properly.

Go to your local hardware store, explain to them what happened, and they'll help you pick out the right products, and usually will show you how to do it.
