I'd check the output of the alternator, and check the battery to see if it is going bad...my gut tells me that one of these is the culprit. IF the battery is original to the car, then I think you've found your answer. The alternator is putting out higher voltage to try to keep the failing battery charged. Hopefully it's that simple, but if in doubt, a quick hookup to the starting/charging system diagnostic machine at your local auto zone, advance auto parts, etc. might tell you the answer.
