Were they of European stock? I've done some research, and I found a few things. Troy, along with their entire nation, was in present day Western Turkey. The original inhabitants arrived from the Southern Steppes of Russia thousands of years ago, but I'm not sure if they came from the Euro or Asian part. They interacted with the Greeks AND the Hittites, but it's hard to say how much they genetically shared with either. They worshipped Greek Gods (a European religion of the time), but had some cultural ties to both the Greeks and the Hittites. First, they were taken over by the Greeks, then by the Persians, then by the Greeks again, and finally by the Muslim Turks. Bear in mind that the Turks didn't take over Western Turkey until thousands of years after the final fall of Troy (the city was rebuilt many times). We have little Trojan artwork, but here's a Trojan coin. Does this face look European?

The problem is that people today are influenced by films and television and the images they convey. Hollywood has a lot to answer for as it always portrayed ancient Greeks, Romans and others as Americans. I mean, can you really see Kirk Douglas and Charlton Heston as ancient warriors. The people of Troy would have looked exactly like the people who live there today. Small, swarthy, black hair and beards and dark skinned in common with most peoples from that region. After all it is a very hot, dry and arid area.

I also believe that the Trojans were white and there is no theory that they were something else. There are many theories about their origin though:

They may were "Anatolians" (people of the Asia Minor that spoke a language that wasn't related with the european languages or the semitic ones - that language is lost today).

They may were Celts (The Celts were spead all over Europe and their presence in Thace was until the fall of Costantinopole).
There are many other theories about their origin and this is not the place to write them all.

So the Trojans were white and they may have been blonde or brunette.

As for the friends that think that the ancient people of Troy may were looking like the people of mediterrenean today, I want to tell them that that's a big mistake, peoples have come and peoples have gone through the ages.

I also want to make clear that there were blonde people in the ancient mediterrenean world like the Celts and the Doric Greeks for example.

The annoying thing about hollywood is that they have to stuck a black person in every "ancient" movie (The Odyssey, Gladiator, Alexander the Great).

PS. That site is turkish propaganda about Troy. I'm glad because you made it clear that turks came from Central Asia, more than 3 milleniums, after the Trojan War.

The Trojans spoke a dialect of northern Greek similar to the Achaeans. Bear in mind the 'Greeks' we think of are Doric and didn't begin to migrate into Greece until the end of the Bronze Age. Ethnically and linguistically they are related to the Mycenaean but not identical.

All of them are of course Caucasian.

They probably were white, but then again what does white mean? They most likely looked like greek or turkish people do today. I know two guys from Turkey and one is pale and the other has medium skin, but they would both be considered white.

They would probably have the olive skin and dark hair which seems to be predominant around the Mediterranean.
