It depends on what type of pictures youre planning on sending. If its just a face shot, nothing sexual at all, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just don't talk about anything you would regret if you found out this person wasnt the age they say they are (if you're questioning them.) If you did agree to send nude pictures (which I'm assuming since you need to know if they're over 18) I really wouldn't unless you meet them and have absolute proof! You might have a cop at your door if you do! You should watch those 20/20 specials, they can get you on anything!

You don't know. If all you're doing is trading pictures, there's nothing wrong with that. However, you can't be sure it is actually them in picture.

UK: It is not if the person you are trading with is 18 or over. It is whether the person photographed is, or appears to be, under 18, and if the photo is indecent, you commit a criminal offense for which you will be harshly punished................
