Hey any breakdancers out there who can give me some pointers/hints/tips?

Am I right in saying that I need to work on upper body strength for this?

What other exercise do you take or dance classes to help you with your art?

haha i love how the guy up top said " i breakdance" lol any real breaker would never never say breakdance.. they'd either say break or bboy or bgirl...

so anyways yes bboyn is hard, and thats why you gotta stay dedicated, and not be scared to execute the moves.. it takes a tremendous amount of control and upper body strength, you have to know your body really well.. as you progress.. you will learn your bodys "sweet spots" and things will be easier.. for you.. make sure whenever hittin freezes that your never on your finger tips.. you can break your fingers that way.. and if people tell you to go on ur finger tips they dont know what they talkn about..

do a lot of push ups, and sit ups.. you'll need a lot of control in your abs.. etc.. and arm strength.. remember bboyn is an art form its more than just cool headspins.. its about footwork , and style.. being clean with your moves.. makin it flow.. theres a lot to it.. check outt bboy.com.. chat with other bboys.. for more info good luck

Yeah, I breakdance. You do need to build up your upper body strength to do more moves and to make the moves you do look better. You can do a lot without tons of strength, but the more you have the better. You also want to stretch a lot cause that will make your moves look cleaner, and you'll be able to do more moves that way too. Handstands are good to help build upper body strength, but try more than that too. Doing turtles will help to build your core as well, which is crucial in breakdancing. Good luck!!!

It does take a lot of upper body strength or joint manipulation. If you can have either of those, then you're set. I've seen scrawny guys breakdance, but they could be on drugs haha.

I'd suggest working out your upper body as well as your lower body. Don't only do standards lifts. Do out of place ones such as plate swivels (fully extended arm, with plate in hand, moving arms around).

Otherwise, watch videos of people doing thigns and take a lesson. It's also important to build up your character with your dancing, so learn some diss moves along with it. Maybe learn how to glide, b/c this is a smooth technique used in opening disses.

I was of the appropriate age when breakdancing first hit. I had the upper body strength, but what I lacked was flexibility and coordination. It hurt, a lot! To be good at it, you need good overall athleticism. Strength, stamina and suppleness, as any gym teacher will tell you. good coordination and an ability to feel the rhythm and act on instinct is also important. Good luck!

Yes it is in the sense of carrying your whole weight to your arms. So, you really have to work on that. Like you have to do 100 push ups (for the biceps and triceps) a day. 100 intensive sit ups a day. These intensive is not the ordinary sit ups, it is the sit up done by gymnasts. It is done in a lying position and the lower part of the body will be the one which will go up. It is divided into 2 parts and still divided into basic and advance. I will tell you the rest of it if you like, because it's my secret. Yes you still have to learn some dance steps so, enroll at a dance studio. Hope I helped you.

Yes, you DO have to have A LOT of upper body strength to break dance, but mainly, if you put your mind to it, you'll have it down in no time, and let me tell you somethin'. IT IS SOOOO FUN!
