I'm with the others: go to the mall and pop into claire's or just about any jewelry store. BUT if you must do it yourself.

1. MARK the locations for your holes with a dot of ink (preferably a fine-point Sharpie) and get someone else to make sure they're even. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP. Use a clear ruler with millimeter markings to get it right. There's nothing goofier than crooked piercings.

2. STERILIZE a sewing needle. (Make sure the needle's thickness matches the thickness of the posts of whatever studs you intend to put in.) I recommend holding it in a flame for a few seconds. Another option is rubbing alcohol but I don't know that it's as effective.

3. HOLD ICE cubes on both sides of your ear lobe so that the lobe is sandwiched between them. It will hurt at first. You need to hold the cubes there until it stops hurting because that's when your lobes have really gone numb. You're better off doing them one at a time.

4. SWAB your ear with rubbing alcohol (make sure you can still see your ink dot).

5. PIERCE. This is tougher than it looks. You need to use a lot of pressure and work quickly so the numbness doesn't wear off. Have a clean wash cloth or gauze on hand to dab away blood. It can help to pull the ear lobe taut, just stay aware of placement. It's usually easier to have a friend do this. As you pierce you will hear a sound like ice crunching.

6. INSERT a solid gold stud, pref 24Karats. THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT. Many people have bad reactions to anything other than gold. Even gold-plated earrings can cause trouble.

7. PRESS a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol on both sides of the hole so that the alcohol really gets in there.

AFTERCARE: This is really important, too. Keep the posts in 24hrs. a day. Turn them every morning and every night. Clean them with a rubbing alcohol soaked cotton ball twice a day. You will have to do this two weeks. Then, if the redness around the hole has disappeared and the pain is gone, you can stop. You should probably wear pure gold or high quality metal for a while after that. Again, the goal is to make sure you don't get an infection. Keep the area dry and clean when not cleansing.

IMPORTANT: If the redness or pain around the piercing persists, spreads, or feels warm to the touch after a week, you have an INFECTION. Time to go see a doctor. You don't want to mess around with this. If it gets bad enough, you'll need to see a doc. Not trying to scare you. People have been piercing their own ears forever. You just need to be cautious. The money you'll save on a kit or whatever may just not be worth the risks and hassle.

Sterilise a very sharp and thick needle, sterilise the entire area around your belly button as well as your fingers that will be touching the area. Push very hard on the needle to force it through the skin you need to move from the inside of your belly button moving down. You should Pierce the skin at least 3 mm inside the hole. Remove the needle, now get the belly button ring you have purchased - stainless steel would be best, which you have also sterilised, and insert into the hole. Now sterilise the whole area again. There is going to be a fair bit of pain and blood, so be prepared for this. It is also very very likely that an infection will set in, even if you sterilise everything. personally i think that it would be better to get it done by a professional but its your life and your choice.

Don't do it yourself. It will be crocked and will most likely get infected.

If you just want your lobes pierced (no cartilage), then go to a store in the mall like Claire's or Faces. They do the piercing for free if you buy the studs. So it's not expensive at all $20 tops usually. It only takes a few minutes.

What you'll need:
a slice of an apple
2 cubes or a handful of ice
a needle
an ear without a hole

What you shoud do:
numb your ear with the ice
put the apple between your ear and your head
jab the needle into the ear (it will enter the apple as well)
remove needle from apple and ear

Disclaimer: This is what my aunt has done to herself in the past. I do not know how bad it hurts or how much blood there will be. I am not liable for any damage done to you or the apple, if you so choose to use one.

You don't.
Go to Claire's. They are in every shopping mall. They are very conscious of the need for sterile/aeseptic technique, and their prices are reasonable.
Doing it yourself, you are going to end up with uneven holes and very probably infections.
Spring for the bucks, get a ride, and have it done right.

lol i tired with a regular sewing needle once and it didnt wokr! plus they are not sterile soif you are dumb enough to try like me you will get in infection and will need to get it tken out, just go to your local pierce sho, check it out and make sure eveything they use is stterile and get it done with a needle! its a clean cut throuhg.
guns are not completely sterile either and hwn they pierce your ear it just pushes all of the skin to the side on the inside of your ear, turning it into scar tissuse and possibliy getting a nasty infection! get it doen professionally no matter what preferably with a needle. they look scary but its fine, ive had my navel pierced and the cartilegde ont he upper part of my ear done with a needle. big needle for my navel yikes!!! lol

Please don't. That's how I did it the first time, and things did not turn out well. If you're underage and can't get permission to get them professionally done (which is what I was at the time), just wait. Your lobes aren't going anywhere.
