I have never tanned before...for two reasons..one I never thought of it..lol and two, im clausterphobic and I didnt think i could stand it.
Im thinking of going to a stand up tanning booth and I wanted to know how it works..about how long it takes, do u wear goggles or close your eyes the whole time, etc..any info would be helpful...I've never been tanning before so i have no clue how to do it all...

wow i just happened to come across your question and i personally think im the best person to answer this b/c i work at a tanning salon. and i am a certified in tanning bed usage.

there are a couple different types of tanning beds. you have your lay down beds and you have the booths. the booths have more bulbs and get you a more all over tan. most maximum times in a stand up bed are 15 min but you are going to want to build up to that. you wont start out your first time at 15 min. in a laydown bed the max time is 20 min but then again you will work your way up to it.

lay down tanning beds arent as bad as you think even if you are claustraphobic.

as for goggles you always want to wear the goggles when you tan. if you dont you could burn your eyes which will make you go blind and i dont think you want that. always remember to take out your contacts if you wear them and dont tan if you are pregnant.

i hope this helps. if you have any more ?'s just IM me!

Maybe try a bed first cause you can open the top instead of being closed in.

Timing depends on what level you go into. I go into the highest level and it goes for 9 minutes. The higher the level the better chance of not getting burned.

In a stand-up, I get the stick-on eye protection, I think they call them "winkies", you can buy them at the tanning salon and they are pretty cheap. If I go in a bed, I have goggle like things for my eyes that I use, you can buy them at the tanning salon. When wearing any of the eye protection, you can open your eyes, but I choose not to and just listen and relax to the music.

Don't worry about being nervous, the person at the tanning salon will go over how to use the beds and whatnot. Hope this helps on your decision!

I have used both the lay down and the stand up booths. The stand up are less claustrophobic to me. You do stand the whole time (15 minutes) and you have to where goggles to protect the eyes. If the tanning place you are planning to use has both the stand up and the lay down. Then I would try one and the next time try the other to see which you are the most comfortable with. The stand up usually has an open top to it so you feel less enclosed.

don't do the tanning thing...it's not healthy and once you start (if you're like most people I know) you get addicted to it...it sounds funny, but it's true! If you do decide to do it, don't tan so much that it looks horrible...if you HAVE to look tan...try the self-tanning lotions, there are some good ones out there, shop around to find out what works best for your skin type... I don't know about stand up tanning...
