Fear of the unknown.
"For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause."
(Hamlet, Act III, scene 1)

Because as far as we know, we only get one life. When you die or someone else dies thats it. End of story. No one knows for certain what happens after you die. Its hard to imagine ceasing to exist anymore. Not seeing your friends/family. Just not living.
Also the way someone dies can make you a little scared too. Will it be painful, horrific, gruesome? Will you even see it coming? One can only imagine certain types of pain people go through when they have died in certain deaths. The thought itself is freightening. I know I will die eventually but knowing there is a good chance it could be in something like a horrible car crash or something worse kinda scares me a little bit. I dont want to go that way or any way like that.
Another part of death people might be wierd about is the death of a friend of loved one. That is not abnormal. You will miss that person and think of them and just wish they were still with you. Here one day, gone the next. Its just wierd if you think about it. Also, going back to how they die and just imagining or wondering the pain they felt before death can get to you too. Sure death is a part of life, but it is still wierd, sad, and even scarey to some people. But sadly, death is so common these days not many people think about it. You hear about all these crazy things happening to people, daily on the news, and its come to the point where its just like 'ok, whatever'. It doesnt even phase a lot of people anymore unless its someone close to them.

This is the one thing in life that we know for sure. We are all born to die.

Many people are afraid of the unkown. Life on this earth as we know it can be a living hell for some people and they can't wait until God call them.

Then there are people who have chronic illness and there is no cure. They suffer and when they pass on they are atlast free of their pain and suffering.

Ofcourse on the emotional level, we will always miss a love one who happens to die.

I am a clinical psychiatrist an I will tell you don't believe any doctor who tells you that you must have closure. My mother died when I was only 16 years old. And still there are times when I see a person who looks like my mother an it will bring back her memory. Or I will smell something that will bring back her memory. (So there really is no closure).

An I see many clients who are depressed because of death in the family.

For me and my clients who are looking for some kind of closure I tell them that you really will never find closure. You must deal with the realization that this person has passed over to the other side and move on with your life.

Why you will not have closure, is that you will go out and a smell, or the sight of another person, etc. etc. will always bring back the memory of your loss.

The loss always hurts, but it is very important to keep moving on with your life.

well, it's a once in a lifetime experience. and no one lives to tell you how it felt.

now, seriously speaking, everybody is scared of the unknown. and the most powerful instinct any living creature has, is the survival instinct.

i can't imagine how it would be not to be part of this world, not to feel anything, or not to think. as hard as i might try, my mind keeps going on, i have to think about smth. i can't imagine total darkness, where nothing is happening and where i don't even notice that there's nothing going on.. you know, there was a latin proverb, "dubito ergo cogito, cogito ergo sum" ("i doubt, so i'm thinking; i'm thinking, so i exist")..i've never heard anything more true than this.

i guess the worst thing about death is that there's no way back. it's the only thing that can't be changed once it's happened. and it's sure scary...

Because it's the only thing you cannot experience, then tell someone about it. Therefore, we're all in an unknown when it comes to the subject.

What I don't like to think of, is how it will happen, more than being dead. I don't favor any one way of dying over another, and would rather like to die in my sleep so I don't see it coming.

Because life comes with manuals on birth, teenagers, dating, education, careers, and marriage. No one wants to talk about themselves and immorality. We live in a culture obsessed with beauty and youth; not death. It's thought of as a morbid topic.

people are so afraid of death because to some its an abrupt stop on things. for christians its a way to "pass on" too something so much better--heaven. thats is what i believe and to some its another arguement.

Wierd how? I'll just say because they're scared crapless of it and they know it. Playing that down can make you look pretty silly.
