The belly button piercing is a favorite among models and celebrities, but it's not for everyone. They work best on innies, and the more recessed the indent the better.

Steps:
1. Consult a licensed or well-apprenticed piercer for advice on whether your belly button will accommodate a piercing. He or she will decide how well your tissue will hold a ring in place.

2. Confirm that your chosen piercer works with sterilized equipment and disposable hollow needles and that he or she wears new latex gloves for each client, offers only piercing-quality jewelry and is accessible post-treatment should you have any questions or concerns.

3. Schedule your appointment when your calendar is clear of any strenuous or even moderately physical activities. Yoga, dancing and most sports may be out of the question for a few weeks following your piercing.

4. Wear loose-fitting clothes to your piercing appointment. Opt for low-slung pants or skirts and tunic or wide-belly tops - anything that will not rub or pull around your belly button.

5. Remain focused on your breath and fix your gaze on a stationary point during the procedure. This will keep your muscles relaxed and help minimize any discomfort.

6. Take care to follow your piercer's aftercare instructions to the letter.

Tips:
Go with the jewelry that your piercer offers, provided that it's titanium, stainless steel or niobium - the metals least likely to promote infection. Gold may not mesh with your body's chemistry.

Although the freedom to wear belly-baring clothes makes summer a logical season to get your belly pierced, remember that swimming and baths are not advisable for a few weeks after the procedure.

Warnings:
Take special care when getting dressed during the initial weeks that follow your procedure. Clothes may catch on the ring and when pulled may cause a lot of pain.

Should you experience excessive swelling, prolonged redness, throbbing pain or sensations of heat in the pierced area, seek immediate medical attention.

Piercing can cause nerve damage if the jewelry is positioned improperly, and communicable diseases may spread during the procedure if performed with unsterilized equipment.

The best thing you can use for your piercing is antibacterial soap and sea salt! Make sure the soap doesn't have a scent! A good way to use the sea salt is to put a pinch of it into a shot class with warm water. You can either lay down and place the mouth of the shot glass around your bellybutton piercing or you can bend over and dip it in the glass. Do not use Neosporin or alcohol. It dries out the skin. Don't pick at the crust either, it may be tempting and all, but it's bad for the pricing; it turns red, starts to hurt and takes longer to heal.

whoa never ever pierce your own belly button! (or your ears) a trained professional needs to do that one for you no matter what! they have to get the needle to curve through your skin since the jewelry is a curved barbell. they use 12 g hollow needles to maek a clean cut and its less painful. alot of skin is pierced, and if you did it your self you will most likely pierce it crooked, the professional did the best he could sine i have a "crooked navel" but it is mostly straight when you look at it. ! plus if you do it your sefl it will migrate. (turn a completey different direction) or REJECT (which is your body literally pushing you the jewelry till it falls out, then you have a nasty scar for the rest of your life and your navel is permanently messed up) what ever you do get it done professionally!
if you live in california in the bay area i went and got it doen at a place called ZEBRAS they are very sterile, clean, friendly and een offer you coke and snaks while you wait in line to get pierced =) i think their website is www.mrzebra.com

why in the hell would you want to do it?

any self piercing is a bad idea, and the navel is one of the worst. it's a ***** to heal. it takes a year plus to fully heal after a professional does it.
you are not a professional piercer i'm guessing... you don't know how to pierce...so dont.

go to a piercer and have them do it. if you're too young...then tough. i waited till i was 18...deal with it.

and if you do do it yourself, or if you go to a piercer who doesnt card you....and it gets messed up...don't ***** on here later.

make and educated decision to be an adult and wait.

You DON'T! You could really do some damage and cause major scar tissue and have an ugly mess on your hands. If you cannot afford it, then wait until you can. Get it done by a professional, PLEASE.

Its not a wise thing to do. You could get a very bad infection. Please let a proffessional do it. It doesn't cost much.
