Actually, it’s just the opposite of injury to the spinal cord. A proper hanging should break the person’s neck after the fall resulting in rapid collapse of the cardiovascular system. Improperly done, a hanging only strangles you and leaves the heart pumping blood for some time. Anxiety causes constriction of the blood vessels in your major muscle groups and the blood that keeps getting pumped around from a beating heart (since your neck isn’t broken) has to go somewhere other than those constricted muscles. That means more blood left over to go to penis resulting in an erection.

I don't even know what that means and can't be bothered to look up, if it by any chance it means an erection, possibly because at a certain point of strangulation you have an orgasm. There is a name for this people try in sex games I don't know the name but something to do with affixiation. There has been talk that's what Michael Hutchens INXS could've been doing when they said it was suicide.

Most likely the noose around the neck damaged the spinal cord which in turn affects the central nervous system sending signals to the penis thus causing an erection.

Injury to the spinal cord. It can also be seen today when some men damage their spinal cord e.g. as a result of car accident or fall.

Gonna have to go with Ms. Silk's answer, but I'd like to add on that. When you die, all the muscles in your body relaxes (you only go into rigor mortis 6 hours after death) so all your bodily fluids'll release, including waste, semen, etc.

muscles are constantly flexed when there isnt an erection, so when those muscles relax, an erection can occur.

in a panic, the body cuts off all other energy requirements in order to survive

My friend to the left knows that it is a result of asphyxia, but actually "Black Jack", was decapitated and therefore could not rise to the occasion.

Persistent, usually painful erection of the penis, especially as a consequence of disease and not related to sexual arousal.

According to that, it's not sexual - it is probably fear...............
