I have a 1999 Jetta VR6. Mine states that it uses 91 premium, but I have been told by several mechanics that I DONT need anything more than 87 unleaded. (this is both VW mechanics and outside mechanics too)

My car has the fuel requirement inside the flap covering the gas cap on a sliver 3" x3" sticker.

I think its also repeated on my drivers door on the inside by the door hinges.

Hope that helps!

Having owned both a 2000 Jetta & Beetle with the 2.0 litre motor, do not bother putting anything more than 'regular' gas in it. Higher octane in these engines does not yeild better performace.

should be in your manual. 87octane or higher is usual recommendation. putting higher octane does not give you better performance, and can make it a lot harder to burn the fuel completely, possibly causing problems for the car if the fuel doesn't burn well enough. basically, don't put more expensive than you need.

Just use regular. It makes no difference what you put in newer cars. Unless its diesel - than your screwed if you use regular.
