White sand is commonplace. As stated by others, white is basically a default color for the main component of sand (quartz), and the White Sands of New Mexico are but one example. Many places in the North-Central United States have white sand where the Saint Peter Sandstone crops out. This is the source of much of the white sand used in sand blasting, glass making, and items such as hourglasses. Several active mines (Scattered from south of St Louis to Wisconsin) produce huge volumes of sand products from that formation. Many creeks and rivers in the area have white sandbars where the formation has naturally weathered back into sand.

Tropical beaches have such white sand, because it is made up of coral fragments, that bleach white when the coral is exposed to air.
The sand actually has a slightly yellow component which gives rise to the wonderful turquoise color of shallow sea over tropical sands. (Blue + yellow = turquoise)

Most- the standard color of quartz and feldspar (by far the most abundant minerals in the world's sand supply) is whiteish. The main variations are sands coated in iron oxides (red) or sands with lots of lithics and mafic minerals (black-like Hawai'i).
