I currently have a red tail who is 6 feet long and 7 years old. A friend of mine has a female who is 14 feet long and 12 years old. I love my red tails and would own as many as my house can hold, which is 3. They live in their own room with heat lamps and a humidifier. They are very happy snakes!

There have been reports of boas getting to 12 feet or so, but it is very uncommon. As well, many people like to think their boa is a lot longer than they really are.
I had a BCI that was about 4.5' long. She was my first boa, and she didn't last long here. I couldn't read her (her temperment), and she struck often at us. So I traded her, and she ended up back with her original breeder, who loves boas.
Most boas get to about 6-8 feet. Bigger can happen, but again it is rare. And they can not kill and eat a human. Jeeze people, pick up something other than the National Inquirer once in a while.

I have had one, but i traded it before it was more than three feet. Red tail boas will generally grow to an average length of 7 or 8 feet and can live to ages of 25 to 30 years in captivity

I would definately buy a baby one if i had the money. The size has already been answered correctly, and if that is to big for you, i would recommend getting a rosy boa, as they only grow up to 3 feet, and require a small vivarium. Also remember you can somewhat control the size of a snake by how often you feed it and the size of the cage you keep it in. In my opinion this is a good pet snake, and would advise you to buy one.

I don't have a boa and I wouldn't want one because the electricity bill would be a fortune cuz they like it warm and they have been know to grow to 13ft or more so thats probably big enough to squeeze an adult human to death and eat them.
