Being very honest with yourself is very hard and not the norm. I am very honest with myself and it kinda sucks because I see my shortcomings all too well and it is a tough way to live. They say being aware is the first step to change but I don't believe it I have been trying to change some of my shortcomings for many years but they are too hard wired. I wish I was delusional and thought I was so great like many do, ignorance is bliss.

True.
The folks I know that have great self-knowledge tend to have exceptional insight into hidden agendas, their own and others' as well. This tends to make them difficult to be around for the average person since they recognize all of our ulterior motives and actions we normally fool even ourselves about. They usually un-nerve or anger others by this 'knowing' when they don't mean to. That can be a definite shortcoming in almost any social interaction, from the job scene to dating! The ones I know are generally brutally honest too... another shortcoming when finesse and tact are called for.

I think we all can be prone to certain shortcomings but I think "truly' honest people ..tend to be harder on themselves, a little less sure because they are always questioning themselves and also expect others to be more honest with themselves and you, than often they can be

Not sure exactly what you mean. Perhapst by "shortcomings" you are referring to traits characteristic of someone who is introspective and introverted by nature? Not to say that self-honest people are all introverts but that is a common stereotype (probably because it tends to be true, I don't know). Such people tend to be more quiet, shy, less career-ambitious, etc. but I don't think that should be seen as a shortcoming (am I describing myself? LOL). I'm extrapolating here so I may not even be answering your question.

I think being honest with yourself is better, than lying to yourself or pretending your somebody your not.
I woundnt say you were prone to shortcomings by being honest with yourself and thus being aware of them, infact I think the opposite because when you know your weakness's and shortcomings you can except them and do your best to work around them, than have them trip you up eventually.
Then again denial has its virtues in some instances, it all depends on the circumstances/situation.

That's A kind of retarded viewpoint! Just because someone is honest that doesn't make one have shortcomings. Shortcomings come from Liers, deceivers, insulters, noseheads, unconsiderates, as far as I know never never never from being honest!

It can be.
An individual is trying to be honest to the best possible extent.
There can be shortcomings. But what we can do is to admit it at the first time he/she notices it. A correctable mind is an invaluable asset for a person who wants to grow mentally (spiritually).

Man cannot be perfect for ever. But he must strive for perfection. He must strive for overcoming his shortcoming. Religion and social mores should keep his idealism in tact. The ideals that he learns from his religion, community, society, and the family will elevate him, as he practises them in real life. Therefore, the perceived shortcomings, he must surely be conscious of and a conscientious person will certainly seek to liberate himself from these short comings, in due course of time.
