I just had an IUD (Mirena) inserted yesterday and I'm feeling really miserable, crampy, and a bit nauseous, I am just wondering if other women experienced the same thing.

I had Mirena inserted about 5 months ago, and I wish I knew what to expect. The information you get from your doctor comes no where close to what you actually feel. (Come on.. some cramping upon insertion!!!) Anyway, that miserable, cramping, nauseas feeling is normal. I had it for a couple of days following insertion. Rest if you can and take some pain meds such as ibuprofen for the cramps.
My menstrual cycles have been weird since I have had the IUD also. The cramping is more intense than usual(but bearable and it's getting better), and the flow is getting less and not lasting for as many days now. One odd thing though is I will get the cramping a couple of days before my period actually starts now.
The only other problem I have experienced is some pain after sex, and light bleeding on a couple of occasions. This was only for the first month or so though until my body got used to the foreign object. My boyfriend also complained the first couple of times of being scratched by the "string" of the IUD, but that also hasn't been a problem since.
Unless the pain becomes unbearable or you start vomiting, don't worry and try to hang in there, it gets better.

I had 2 different types of IUD's in my life and each time I had one inserted I felt the same way for about 3 days-like a bad, crampy period but it got better each day and finally could not even tell I had one. It is a foreign object in your body so your body will try to fight it at 1st. Be patient and call your Dr. if you are very concerned. Good Luck!

The cramps are normal from the insertion. I had a copper-7 inserted years ago - it was extremely painful having it put in, I could barely walk afterwards, and the entire 2 years it was in I had nothing but trouble. My periods were extra long and extremely heavy with the worst cramps of my life. I would bleed almost every time I had sex. If I had sex within a week of when I was supposed to start my period, it would start early with the sex. Stay in touch with your doctor with your symptoms, etc. This may not be the right type of birth control for you. Here's the good news: I didn't get pregnant, and having it removed was completely painless.

From reading the previous replies, evidently some cramping and nausea with this brand is common. However, I had several different IUDs over a 15-year period, between my 4 pregnancies and never had the slightest problem. It prevents pregnancy, there are no hormonal side effects, no weight gain, and you never know it's there!

I have had the Mirena for over a year now and I love it. Yes there was some cramping and crappy feeling for a week or so but now my periods are so light they are almost nonexsistent and best part I AM NOT PREGNANT!!! give it some time and you will feel fine!
