Can anyone offer a real plan to change the course of america from the tragic course we are on .?

Step one. Eliminate the electoral college. Not that difficult. It can be done at either the state law or federal constitutional level.

Step two. Eliminate primaries, and make all candidates run as individuals. In other words, whether a candidate gets an endorsement from a political party is up to the party. But that endorsement has no more legal effect than any other organization's endorsement.

Step three. Require all candidates to sign a binding pledge for any campaign promises they make. This would have the same legal effect as a binding contract. Anyone who votes for the candidate could sue for breach of that pledge/contract, with a successful suit requiring the candidate be automatically removed from office.

That would go a long way toward eliminating many of the problems politics, and at least allow us to address some issues while we're getting people to stop being irrational about the rest.
