Money. I hate one word answers. It is impossible to elect a common person, with common sense. They do not have enough money or access to money to run a fair and honest campaign. We have a governors race here in Michigan that one candidate is a gazillionaire and is trying to buy himself a job. Look for him at the national level some day. He has aspirations of ego.

What we have in America are political party's that both have different interests groups that largely shape their policies. What an individual voter must do is look at who these interest groups are and in which party do they invest their funds? From this simple intelligence gathering method a person has narrowed their search for their party based on the most important criteria ...(their economic reality) Now there are a whole myriad of other issues from here a person can go to www.rollcall.com and find out how the candidates do in fact vote. Good luck and welcome to the wild world of politics!

Because if your choice is coke or pepsi and you just want water, you're screwed. They don't always get the votes, sometimes they steal the election.
