I've worked as a teller the last 4 years and I came upon some hard times in my life and have moved back home to live with my parents. As a result, my credit is completely screwed. I wanted to apply as a lab assistant at a local hospital, I don't have any experience for this position. Will a hospital pull a credit report for employment? My credit report says nothing about the way I work and who I really am. After I get a job and get back on my feet I want to start college and work towards getting a degree as a lab technologist so this would be a perfect job for me.

I'm pretty sure you have to sign a consent form letting you know they'll check your credit if that is something they're going to do. If you didn't see one, I don't think they'll check it.
Also, I used to have bad credit and am grateful that I wasn't judged by that as I'm a great employee and have had the same job for 6 years.

They should not access your credit record without your permisssion. Read the fine print on the job application (front and back). If it says words to the effect that signing the application authorizes them to obtain a credit report or check your background, they probably will do so. Some employers see people with bad credit histories as a risk because it may indicate irresponsibility to them or concern them that the potional employee might sqaunder the companies assets or steal from the the company.
If you really want the job anyway, consider explaining your situation to the HR recruitment manager.

Belle good for you for facing life and your recovery from a difficult situation head on! That is the surest way to get back on your feet and working towards your dreams as a lab technologist. It can be difficult after a few set backs to feel the confidence-- easier to prepare for defeat than to prepare for what it will take to recognize your dreams. Belle, you are never given a dream without the equal capability to make it happen. Good credit or bad has no bearing on whether you would give your best work to a lab assistant's job at the local hospital, except so far as it limits you or slows you from recognizing your dream.
My advise is to focus at least equal if not greater time on what is required to recognize your big dream as you give to how far you had fallen. I know this is easier said than done, but it IS worth it and you are worth it!

No your credit rating and applying for a job are two different things. Credit rating affects you getting a loan, whereas having worked for the same employer for a year or more looks good to the credit lender (bank) and your future employer.

In this day and age, maybe. I really doubt they would because it costs them money, and you won't be handling their money. Your resume with your teller job speaks volumes about your character. Hang in there....it took me ten years to pay everything off after my divorce. Got it done. Should have listened to my lawyer, declared bankruptcy.
However, if you tackle one debt at a time, you can get through it. Good luck !
