I just added probably 1-2 quarts too much oil in my car. when i took off to drive somewhere tons and tons of smoke came out the exhaust pipe. the steering wheel locked up and it started driving about 30 mph. I pulled over and waited about 15 minutes. when i started it again it still had smoke coming out when i drove it but driving ok and fine now. Is it bc there is too much oil????

DONT DRIVE IT UNTIL YOU EMPTY THE OIL!! Having too much oil will cause oil to get into the cylinders and mix with your gas, which will cause terrible gas mileage and tons of smoke from the burning oil. not only that, but the unburnt oil will come out the exhaust and clog up the catalytic converter! If your cat gets clogged you are looking at a $1000 repair. I would drain the oil asap until it is at the correct level.

Too Much Oil In Crankcase

Not only will it smoke..in extreme instances, but too much oil will cause a reduction in oil pump volumn.
This will lead to scored bearings & eventually, engine failure.
When the oil level get's above the bottom of the crankshaft , it will get aeriated when the crank splashes into it.
THat puts air bubbles in the oil & causes a reduced amount of oil being pumped.

Yes, too much oil in the crankcase will cause smoking. Your best bet is to drain the oil and put in the correct quantity, your owners manual will tell you how much.

Yes, yes and Yes. The smoke is the oil burning off.

Yes, and without going into the particulars, you sound like someone who doesn't know how to take care of a car. You probably put to much air in the tires and that is bad too.

Yeah, that's why you're supposed to add ONLY what you need. Better get drained before it causes more problems.
