Generally speaking, anti-social people have "social anxiety". This means that simply being around other people makes them so nervous that they actually start to avoid social situations. Anti-social people prefer to stay at home rather than going out, and are not good at speaking up in social situations. Here is a great article that answers your question:

there really is a technical, accepted psychological disorder called anti social personality disorder. its in the DSM IV, the pros bible.

basically, it means being a loner BIG TIME. a person gets uncomfortable around others, usually like a bag lady type.

i think its a genetic disorder.

True antisocialness refers to criminals and people who hate people in general and want to exploit them.

However, a lot of people erroneously refer to avoidant personalities with the same word.
