My AC will work 60% of the time, full blast, and then other times it won't come on at all. I know I should talk to a mechanic, but friends say it shouldnt be that hard to fix if it works more than half the time. Any ideas/suggestions?

Move some place like Michigan where you'll only need it 60% of the time.

PATHETIC PEOPLE !

HE Said it Doesn't Come On AT ALL !!! sometimes.

This would indicate something electrical wouldn't it?

It could be something as simple as the electrical "Pot"
behind the fan switch or if your just talking about the compressor
not coming on, then it could be the wiring for that switch.

if the compressor motor is ceased, then it may not come on as a precaution.

Try turing the air con button off and just using it as a fan
and if that stays on all the time, then it was the compressor.

look at the fuse box and make sure that none of the fuses are able to move and that the teeth holding the fuses are wired solidly and connected solidly, and free from corosion build up,
just the car vibrating could cause a fuse to work intermitently.

Hope this helps.

Check to see if there's leaves in the vents which are at the end of the windshield. They have holes in them (not making fun just making sure you know what I mean). Clear it from leaves and any other debris. See if that helps.

Also, switch the hot-cold dial back and forth to see if it helps, if so, then it's getting stuck.

Hope this was helpful

Take it to a auto technician or hope that it is cold out 40% of the time.
