I was driving the other day ('01 Infiniti I30, only 29k miles) the engine light came on. That is the most frastrating thing when you dont know whats the problem. What do you think are the possiable causes since the car drives perfectly smooth and I checked the gas cap, its on tight!

My van was just stripped down to the wiring because the stupid light kept going off. There was a bad connection now it's fixed. It is probably nothing major, but I would also check your oil level. Oil being too low can also turn that light on.

There are probably 3,000 different reasons the light came on.
Without a crystal ball the only other way to know would be to have a diagnostic test on the vehicle.

No way to really tell. You can drive to most parts stores (Autozone, O'reillys) and they will have a scan tool that they can check your vehicles computer for codes for free. Hope this helps.

have the codes read and you'll save yourself all the guesswork. The code system (obd2) was partially designed just for that purpose- to TELL you whats wrong
