I've done several detox programs. Why? Because we live in such a polluted world...the air, the food, the water. You can manage these things by eating organic and purified water, but even those aren't enough in my book and I can't afford everything organic all the time.
Detoxes I've done:
* Dr. Schulze's intestinal cleanse (2 weeks, pretty easy; I've done this about 2x/year for 4 years)
* Dr. Schulze's liver/gallbladder cleanse (5 days, not easy but worth it; I've done this about 3x over the last few years)
* Isagenix 9-day cleanse (convenient but not easy; I'd recommend doing this after Schulze's intestinal cleanse)
I feel better, more energy, more mental/emotional clarity as a result of doing these cleanses. All the ones I've mentioned (except for the intestinal cleanse) involve some sort of fast. Fasting is not easy, but it gives your liver a BIG rest to stop processing so much. I recommend keeping on exercising during a cleanse, but tone it down...ie, don't be lifting weights or doing any rigorous workouts, unless your are under the supervision of a professional familar with fasts/cleanses.
I've also heard of good results from the lemon-honey-cayenne cleanse, I've not tried that yet and might try it next spring. It's certainly a low-cost way to do it and there's tons of info on the net on how to do it.
Good nutrition is vital to getting the real benefits of cleanses. If you eat like the guy in the movie, "Supersize Me", cleanses are going to be of minimal benefit and might even be dangerous if not painful.

I started taking an all in one liquid nutritional supplement about a year ago to help me out with general better health. In that time, it has helped me with a few different things from more energy to viturally eliminating my allergies. You are supposed to take 2 oz of this supplement for general health maintenence and you can also use it as a great detox also. Take 1 oz 4 or 5 x each day with little food. You will cleanse your system quite well. Even if you take the normal amount, over time (a week or so) you will see the effects of your body naturally eliminating toxins.

A detox program is one indicated to get rid of a drug or alcohol addiction. Admittance to these facility usually is in a hospital and more often , in a clinic. In these clinics , the program is usually run by psychiatrists, medical doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, technicians counsellors, nutritionists and the like. The program is so intense that lay people are not qualified to do it; especially during the acute phase of withdrawals. It employs the use of the drug, methadone and other supportive measures, such as support group meetings, good nutrition, and behavior modifications techniques.. Mere admittance to these programs do not guarantee success. The motivation and incentive to combat this addiction should come from the addicts themselves. So no matter how many times they go into rehab; if the paticipant or addict is not determined to face up and lick his demons, he won't be able to get rid of his addiction.

Detox program is generally a 3 day (approx.) stay at a facility to get the "drug" (or whatever, alcohol, etc.) out of your system. It is there to keep you from using/drinking -- plus they can monitor you for any withdrawal symptoms you may go through. They feed you well and you MUST eat or they won't let you leave. They watch what you do, try to keep you busy, counseling, etc. and try to get you convinced to go to meetings and possibly stay an additional 30 days. Withdrawals from certain things can be very very serious. My oldest son is a heroin addict and his withdrawals are HORRIBLE when he has them. You are fed vitamins and medications to help calm your nerves some (but not addicting meds).

theres this really gross detox diet-purified water, honey, lemon juice and cayenne pepper. its supposed to have all the nutrients your body needs and thats all you can eat or drink and it purifies your body.
Theres also a juice detox, where all you cnsume is fresh squeezed juice (no older than 24 hours) some diets say as much as you want, others say 32 ounces a day (thats like one large smoothie at jamba juice)
to detox your body u dont have to exercise it isnt a diet.

It depends on what you detoxing from. If you are talking drugs or alcohol, you should do it under a doctors care. If you are just talking about pooping a lot - that's what laxatives are for.
