get yourself another hard drive plug into your system as master and change your old one to slave instal windows to new one
second option take the hard drive and put it in a friends system and copy data to his system providing they have room to store or to burn to disk
then format your drive and reinstall windows
i have a spare 20 gb on mine but alas you are to far away

When you tried to boot into Safe Mode, how long did you wait? It can take up to half an hour to go into safe mode if your hard drive is nearly full. It will display a bunch of file names and then sit there for a while. So if you have not waiting that long, try again.

If you still can not get it up, you can probably get all of your pictures off the hard drive by taking it out of your computer and putting it into another computer as a second hard drive. Then you can copy anything you want off the hard drive.

If you only had 200 meg free when you ran reg mech, that is probably what messed up the hard drive. Any time you have less than 1 gig (1,000meg) free, you run the risk of crashing the computer and corrupting the hard drive.

You have a tough one sorry to say.
One thing that can be done as a last resort is take your tower to a computer repair shop and have them hook up your hard drive to another computer. They can then dl your pics etc. and put them on a CD.
The repair of your computer is now the only issue.

This will cost you a few bucks but depending on the importance of your files, you make the decision.

Wanna talk about backup? sorry, I just had to say that.

If you want to save the data you had, reinstalling XP wil not work, but overwrite it. Your best bet if you do find a copy is to install it on a new hardrive and slave your old one. Then, you will be able to grab your lost files.
