The word you're looking for is androgyne, as an adjective it would be androgynous. The word comes from Greek andros (man) + gyne (woman... as in gynecologist)

On the other hand, a hermaphrodite would be both male and female,

the first answer is correct. A hermaphrodite has both male and femal sexual organs.

An androgynous person was born either male, or female, but because of the way they dress, act, talk, walk, etc it is difficult or impossible to tell what sex that person is by outward appearance. They have, however, left their physical organs in tact.

a Transgender person claims to be a person of one sex, trapped in the body of a person the opposite sex...for example - A man may be effeminate, want to dress in woman's clothing, enjoy doing "girly" things and say he was "supposed" to be born a woman but is trapped in this male body.

a trans-sexual person (as I understand it) is a person who has undergone gender re-assignment surgery. ANYBODY who disagrees, let me know 'cause I don't want to be ignorant about this.

hermaphrodites have both male and female sex organs, but the word "androgynous" refers to people whose sexuality is ambiguous, such as women who dress in men's clothing or vice versa
