Good answer Clostridium, that would sort of give additional scientific backing to the great flood, since it had rained for 40 days and nights, that would have been about 1month and 10 days. So as you said, 3-4 weeks, I'd say possible a tad bit more as well, since the dove did return with the olive branch. Another thing to note, is that if the olive tree was planted up high as on a mountain, drainage would be going on, and since birds alight on usually higher branches, the tree could have possibly been on a mountain. Mount Arafat possibly? Scientists should test the soil for olive trees to aid in further investigation. Of course, other evidence has already been found, so they may not feel the need to.

Yes. However, it depends on many factors: is it on a flat ground? is it on a cliff? most olive trees are in a mountainous climate since it originated in the Mediterranean basin (Olea Europaea). How high is water also? Usually the olive tree is very resistant to many natural factors, including flood, but if an olive tree stays flooded for few weeks, naturally the roots will be suffocated, therefore there will be no nutrition brought up, therefore it dies.
So to answer your question, yes they CAN survive flooding if it's not prolonged (I'd say in a time frame of less than 3-4 weeks).
Hope this helped.

"we don't understand the salinity or temperature of the floodwaters. positively the Flood waters did adversely influence many timber. besides the shown fact that, the olive is very a hardy tree. So an olive tree could have remained alive under water for some months in the process the Deluge. With the abating of the Flood waters, an olive tree that were submerged could returned be on dry floor and could placed forth leaves, one among that would fairly be won by ability of the dove. on the different hand, the olive leaf carried to Noah by ability of the dove would have been taken from a particularly youthful sprout that had arise after the Flood waters had abated. The wild olive can't proceed to exist in chilly temperatures, including those found on bigger mountains. It normally grows in areas under 3,000 feet [a million,000 m], the place the typical temperature is above 50 stages Fahrenheit [10°C]. “for this reason,” says the e book The Flood Reconsidered, “Noah could deduce from the freshly plucked leaf that the decrease valleys have been becoming to be freed from water.” while Noah released the dove each week later, it did no longer return, indicating an more suitable abundance of plant life and ability resting places for the dove."—Genesis 8:12.
