Jeff Probst popped in on The Early Show Wednesday morning, confirming the reports that the 20 castaways for Survivor: Cook Islands will be grouped by race, with competitors divided into four tribes consisting of whites, blacks, Asians and Hispanics.
I'm looking forward to it -- I think it will be a good show and I don't have any problem with having people ban together with people they have similar cultural background with.
I like the idea.
I think it is a little controversial as the public willhave to have a bit of angst about it and comment one way or another ... but I see nothing about people of like background and culture, banning together and trying to outwit, outlast, outplay....
It should be taken in the spirit it was intended.... it's ok to be different and to acknowledge and celebrate our cultural differences.
Expect the unexpected.

The great social experiment evolves yet again!
I've been watching since the season 1 and although this is by far the most controversial decision it is also the most interesting. This is NOT a racist decision and anyone who thinks it is living in another dimension. When they divided the groups by the sexes did anyone cry out "SEXISM!" ? I think not... We all wanted to see who did a better job, boys or girls.
So let's just see how different ethnic groups get along when faced with the ultimate challenge of survival. I'll be there every week rooting for whichever team gets along the best and shows the greatest acumen for TEAMWORK!

It sounds a bit like last year's early division of older and younger men and women ... which only lasted for a couple episodes before the tribes were merged into more traditionally varied groups.
There's nothing inherently offensive about it, and if it gets some buzz going for the show -- which is coming off its lowest-rated season ever -- all the better.

im sure it will be interesting..it always is no matter how the divide the teams..and really in all honesty the races seem to divide themselves on the teams anyway..so it shouldnt offend anyone that the show is going to be like this from the start.

I love the idea! In it's purest form, we will see 4 separate cultures at work such as social interaction, survivalist skills, and athletic abilities. I hope they all speak English cause I want to be in on all the under-plotting that goes on!

Oooohhh, rocky territory there. I will watch it for sure but I'd hate to see the winner going off on some racist tangent - hmmmmm, what will happen?

The chinese will make something great if they can just copy off the white people, the dark people will get nude and lay around and get pregnant,
This is no competition, the whites will win if they keep the chinese away.
