but other times its totally the reverse...

no, not entirely. Your brain is the part that thinks but your conscience is what tells you to do a good thing, when satan(if you believe in him) steps in and takes over your conscience making it hard for you to make the better decision, well that is when the brain becomes the culprit and the conscience is pushed away making it easier for you to act out your misdeeds. satan then replaces your conscience, and that my friend is how the world is made up of hate, crime, and disgusting degrading deeds.
