when you first connect your psp to your computer you should see a folder called "PSP" without the quotes. Inside the "PSP" there should be a folder called "MUSIC." If not make one yourself name it in caps. Put your music in that folder. They have to be MP3, atrac, and if you have version 2.7+ you can even play wma.

What you first have to do is format your memory stick. this option should be available some where in the in the settings icon on your psp. Make sure to save the pics that you have on your psp on to your computer first though because all information on your psop gets deleted when you format the memory stick. When you have formated your memory stick connect your psp to your computer usung a usb cord or if you have a newer computer you can insert the memory stick directly into your computer using a memory stick adaptor. when your psp is connected to your computer folders should apperar on your screen one of them should say music, click on it and when you have opened the music file simply drag your music into the music folder, also the music files have to be in mp3 format.

Maybe the format of the music is not supported by the PSP, like AIFF, WAV, WMA (if u didn't activate it), OOG, AAC (v 2.6 and under)...
Check the menu for supported formats.
