Cleansing the areas in which the fruit flies are is vital. I remember my gram used to get them during the summer with the fresh fruit and veggies. She used vinegar because it would kill their lavae.

All else, ask Martha .. she knows all!

well, of course make sure that you don't have any food sitting out on the counters (like bananas or other fruit), and empty your garbage can(s) daily.

You may also want to make sure that you garbage disposal is clear of any food remnants. You can take a bleach solution (small amount of bleach) and pour it down your drain in the kitchen. (Careful not to mix the bleach with ammonia or other cleaner). Also, make sure the room is well ventilated.

I had a similar problem, and this seemed to help.

take a shot glass and fill it with brown vinegar, cover the glass with plastic wrap and poke small holes in it. the fruit flies love the vinegar and crawl into the glass. they get stuck and cant get back out.

wash fruit and veggies as soon as you get them home from the market,
store in the refrig or cool place

they also love it in the heat....don't turn your ac off when you leave the house
