I don't agree completely.
Some politicians are using religious support as an excuse to stay in power, and those ones are doing so primarily to be self-seeking.
However, there is also a very large movement of people who think their religion is correct, and don't want any challenges to those beliefs. Because they are able to gain control of local, state or federal governments, they want to use that political power to require everyone else to conform to their religious beliefs.
The second (larger) group is also self-seeking, but the "self" is the religion (Church) as a whole, and not the individual politician.

No. Religious divide exists from a long time now. Our ancients divided the religion for the benefit of the people. For instance in Hindu religion one group says AHAM BHRAMASMI. This means God is in me. But an other group disagrees with it. Some people has to idolise god. With out that they can not concentrate in their prayers. It all started like that. They left the choice for you. you select your path, but the ultimate goal is the same. Nowadays some of our politicians are taking negative advantage of this.

Yes, I do agree with this view point of yours. Common people are not bothered with the religion but they are worried about their day-to-day economic activities for maintainance and upliftment of their families. In order to capture the power to rule and continue in power as long as possible, they divide the people in the name of caste, religion, reservation, minorities etc.

If one is miserable don't they try to put everyone else in misery with them?
Just like Michael Bloomberg, x-smoker, now trying to make the world quit smoking. Wants us to be in misery with him.
Remember your humble begginnings and lose the judgement and have compassion and understanding for we all sin and fall short of the glory of the father but to have compassion on those who have none is the greatest gift as well as love. Making someone feel worthwhile even if it costs us

Thats how it is. If there were no differences or disputes on religional basis, the selfish politicians would have (and they have) misused casteism, sectism, classes or other biased basis to create a hatred among people.

These poltician are encashing the dharma for their benefit. I love every god whether he is rama, rahim or jesus. all are equal and same.
