I went to the dr today and had to have an ultrasound. We found out that the placenta is in front making it hard to hear and feel the baby. I didnt have this problem with my other 2. Has anybody else had this problem and was it ok? THe dr doesnt seem to be worried but just want to make sure.

I see anterior placentas routinely. As long as your placenta is not covering your cervical canal, there is no problem!

"In most pregnancies, the placenta is implanted on the back wall (posterior). In your case, it is situated on the front wall (anterior). This is unusual, but not unheard of. It is certainly nothing to worry about."

I have the same thing going on with my pregnancy (18 and a half weeks). The only thing (it's not enough of a problem to call it a problem) is my doc can't seem to get the heartbeat on the doppler very often b/c it has to go through the placenta, so she does more ultrasounds than usual to be sure everything is ok. So, if your doc can't get the heartbeat on doppler don't panic, the doppler can only do so much and if it has to go through the placenta it has trouble detecting the heartbeat. My dr. told me otherwise it is no problem, that the placenta will get higher up in the uterus as the pregnancy progresses...after all, a placenta in the front is a placenta that is not at the bottom (placenta low enough to cover the cervix is bad).

My first baby's placenta was in the upper half of the front. I didn't have any issues. When he did the ultrasound he even said, "the baby is implanted in a good location." I asked him where and he told me. I think as long as it is not covering the cervix or in the tubes you are just fine. Looking back he did have to search a little harder to find the heartbeat when he would listen with the doppler than he has had to with this current pregnancy (placenta is in the back of the uterus)...but no problems. I think that I am feeling more of the small movements with this baby than the first and I have attributed it to the fact that he is not kicking thru a placenta like my first one.

In front is not a problem. As the baby grows, it should be easier to hear the baby. If the placenta were low, that would be a problem.
