I think homework is good for kids as long as it is not too much. There was one year I remember my daughter was in the 5th grade.5 days a week she had homework and it would take her from the time she got home til right before bedtime to get it all done. She was so aggravated by the end of the day that I felt sorry for her. That was just way too much!!

I don't have a problem with my kids having homework, as long as it is 1. relevant, 2. explained fully what is expected, 3. not over done, 4. not given as 'busy work'
I have always felt that homework is work that wasn't completed during the class period. Teachers who give homework just to give homework tend to upset me.

Necessary evil. My boys are now 17 and 20 it was a struggle to get both of them to concentrate on homework. There was no TV on school nights. My oldest was very disorganized and would not even turn in homework that he had done. Then in middle school it was still a struggle. They finally got it together in high school. The oldest is now on the dean's list at major university. Youngest not as academically inclined but is working hard as he starts his senior year in high school and expect him to go to 4-year university as well.

I think homework is an important tool. It backs up what they've learned in class. However, it always annoys me when they get a paper thrown at them with minimum instruction and then we parents are supposed to try to figure it out in order to explain it to the kids.

depending on how much it is... a good idea to let us know what is going on in class.... if it takes longer than 30-45mins... way too much for an elementary school child... it is needed to help children practice skills they have learned in class
