Yes it is possible because a cable modem uses the cable that you get your tv from. dsl uses a phone line if you have that you will have no problem.

why dont you get a splitter or router then have the owner pay you half of the Cable Internet. With a 4 port router, you can have up to 4 computers hooked up to the internet all at the same time.
On the other hand, is his DSL modem able to provide service for more than one computer? If so, hook up to his DSL and pay him 1/2 of the cost. I just sold a DSL modem that did just that about a year ago.
If the owner is the one that has the cable service, they should also check into getting high speed internet along with telephone service, if that is provided in your area. With the combination of all three services, you can greatly reduce the overall cost. I dropped my telephone bill by $30.
If they have DSL, that is part of his phone line so, he'll expect you to pay 1/2 of the phone part of the bill unless there is a second phone cable to the residence and you get your own line. He has cable already installed and I'm sure, they'll expect you to pay 1/2 of that bill also. I'm assuming that you will splice into his cable so that you have TV in your room, right?

yes, DSL uses the telephone line and Cable Internet uses the cable line, I can't imagine how DSL Express would be better than cable in regards to upload and download speeds
